Comedy, Free Speech, and North Korea.

Christmas will be a little less Merry this year.

Like many other American twenty-somethings, I am a fan of Seth Rogen and James Franco. Sure, their humor is a little adolescent, but isn't comedy an excuse to act little immature? I like to think that through watching things like Pineapple Express and This is the End, I get to live vicariously through ridiculous life scenarios without making risky mistakes myself.  Some humor just never gets old, no matter how old you get.

Needless to say, I was quite looking forward to seeing The Interview. How could it not be funny? The idea of two goofs getting to interview a feared political leader, much less take him out is just amazingly absurd. Unfortunately North Korea is getting the last laugh now. It's a little strange that the "Gaurdians of Peace" is the name used by the group making threats. More like "Instillers of Terror."

I tried to think about this from a North Korea perspective. What would the USA do if someone made a movie about killing the president? I bet there would be a speech from Mr. Prez about how distasteful it is and how dissapointed he is and American theaters probably wouldn't show it. But I'd like to think we wouldn't hack into an entertainment company's computer system and threaten civilians lives if they choose to see a movie. It's hard to believe that a comedy by highly talented Rogen and Franco has become such a serious issue. I'm guessing North Korea isn't familiar with their  previous work. Then they might be less concerned.

To top it off, all of this might have gone down on a day we celebrate the birth of a poor kid that told us to love each other. I'm not sure if that's irony thanks to Alanis Morisette, but it definitely feels a little like the Twilight Zone.
